Star Wars 1313 unveiled – A darker and more mature experience

Lucasarts have shared a few details about Star Wars 1313, which actually has me pretty intrigued. Described as a third person cinematic action adventure we’ll follow an unnamed bounty hunter through the seedy underbelly of Coruscant.

“Star Wars 1313 dives into a part of the Star Wars mythos that we’ve always known existed, but never had a chance to visit. We are committed to bringing the best gameplay experience and visual fidelity to life and I truly believe the work we are showcasing at E3 will speak for itself.” says Paul Meegan, President, LucasArts

As a super fan this is probably one of the most exciting Lucasarts developed Star Wars games; I make a clear distinction between those created by Bioware or other companies of course. There has been an emphasis on making the franchise more accessible to children which is understandable but I worried for the future of the series because of this. Why? Because as much as I enjoyed some parts of The Clone Wars, it still felt like the expanded universe was becoming a kinder gentler place. And who wants that?

Non-Force users in the novels often have far more compelling and heroic tales to explore than Jedi/ Sith; and it’ll be very interesting to see where things go. My prediction is that the story will be set in the Empire era (between Episode III & IV) which leaves the door open for plot points covering Imperial repression, anti-Alien sentiment and the rise & fall of the Black Sun. It also allows for justification of heavily armed enemies, as post-Clone wars there would be a large amount of war matériel on the black markets. Also, the Lambada class shuttle and Tie fighters in the image below are a dead giveaway…

We’ll find out more at E3, until then at least fans like me have something to look forward to.
